The Renowned Musician Urges Support to Send Palestinian Solidarity Song to UK Christmas No 1.
A fundraising initiative is aiming to propel a Palestinian lullaby to the peak of the festive singles chart. The campaign hopes to deliver assistance to communities in Gaza while also highlighting Palestinian culture and creativity.
A Possibility for Support and an "Surprise Victory"
Renowned figure Brian Eno, who performs on the track, stated that the release called 'Lullaby' represents a moment to stand with Palestinians during the holidays. He acknowledged the potential for an surprise number one.
“It would be fantastic if that occurred, yes,” he stated. “I won't be completely disheartened if it doesn’t, festive releases are a unique phenomenon.”
Powerful Theme of Self-Determination
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who features in the reimagining of a folk song called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the song's resilient spirit.
“It occupies a profound significance for many individuals,” Barghouti shared. “It’s basically saying that I would choose to perish with honor than live a life without freedom. That is the core idea of the song; we desire to exist a dignified life that we are entitled to as Palestinians.”
Recording Origins and Featured Artists
The track was produced after a solidarity show held in the autumn. Originally intended to be captured during the live event, the piece was shelved during the concert due to scheduling overruns.
The diverse array of artists appearing on Lullaby encompasses a range of prominent voices from the scene. All took part in the benefit event, which reportedly raised a substantial amount for humanitarian aid.
Production and Release
Lullaby was brought to life by a trio of talented individuals. The single showcases a combination of the traditional Arabic lyrics with new English lyrics.
The team running the initiative have stated that their objective is to generate maximum funds for a dedicated fund. These resources will be channeled to initiatives supporting Palestinians through an established charity.
“We haven't set a rigid aim,” a spokesperson said. “We’ll go for whatever we can get. Of course, the higher the total, the greater the impact. Every penny goes out to Gaza.”
The situation in the area was characterized as its widespread damage, with a huge proportion of buildings said to be destroyed or damaged.
“Given that reality, a handful of millions doesn’t make an enormous impact. But I think the significant factor is above all raising awareness for this issue and showing there’s another side to the story.”
The track is scheduled for release at the end of the week. Additionally, a complete film of the solidarity show will be made accessible to view on a digital service from later in the month.
