The New Animated Series' Introductory Sequence Selected the Incorrect Popular RPG Show Song

The Mighty Nein, the most recent animated series by the beloved role-playing group, revealed a new opening credits. It showcases the beloved group of outcasts, outcasts, and rogues kicking ass and making their mark, while also hinting at several heart-wrenching backstories for characters such as Liam O'Brien's wizard Caleb, and another actor's warlock orc, the character Fjord.

Overall, the opening looks stunning. However, I felt that an element was missing in the song choice.

This sequence employs "Welcome to Wildemount", a truly stellar composition created by producer and singer Colm McGuinness. This piece from the official score of the same name, the second one released by Critical Role Productions LLC's music division Scanlan Shorthalt Music. It's a wonderful sentimental choice, and I believe that devotees of the sequel series will appreciate its inclusion.

Personally, The series' opening fails to capture the excitement and energy that accompanied the show's live-play sessions. "It's Your Turn", written by singer-songwriter the artist, became an immediate hit for me when it was first revealed in that year, and it only got better when cast member Sam Riegel added lyrics to the tune for the animated Campaign 2 opening in 2018.

Featuring vocals from Ashley Johnson, another performer, Travis Willingham, as well as Riegel himself, the track was memorable and fun. Back then, I hadn't seen the follow-up series at that point, but this was such an earworm that I still saved it on my phone. It's a song that knows how to get you pumped before you dive into an installment of adventurous fun.

The show's opening with "the new song" doesn't strike the right notes for me. It's an impressive composition, but based on my understanding of this party, I feel that its mood is somewhat mismatched.

Naturally, Critical Role has stated that the series will have a few surprises and variations from the actual-play campaign. An adjusted mood for its opening appears as among these.

The Mighty Nein will be available to watch on Prime Video from November 19. If you can't wait before that, or wish to prepare to get to know the characters of the second series, the original episodes are accessible on the audio platform and YouTube.
