Nearly twenty-five thousand residences in south-east Queensland woke up without power on Monday morning after severe thunderstorms swept through the state, generating strong winds topping 109km/h.

Massive Frozen Precipitation and Widespread Damage

Homeowners observed substantial frozen pellets measuring up to seven centimeters in particular locations. The Bureau of Meteorology confirmed that various areas across the state had been affected by significant hail.

Utility workers were working to restore electricity service throughout the damaged zones, with approximately seventy teams activated to address the widespread outages.

Victoria's Climate Difficulties

Emergency response teams handled 598 calls for help across the state, mostly for building damage but also for downed trees and inundation.

• Hoppers Crossing suburb - numerous assistance requests
• Wyndham area - nearly 180 emergency requests

At one point on the previous day, in excess of 28,000 energy customers in Victoria were experiencing outages.

Climate Outlook

Moist weather were forecast to persist along large portions of Queensland's east this next several days as a atmospheric system continued to draw in moisture against the coastal areas.

The following day was expected to become the most rainy day, with continued thunderstorm potential predicted across different parts of both states.

Medical Alert

Medical authorities cautioned that there was an increased chance of epidemic thunderstorm asthma across the state's northern country region, particularly given the existing atmospheric conditions.

This caution comes after past events where comparable situations led to significant health impacts in the region.
