Manchester United Set to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Major Signing for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her contract, has been a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for her country. Her arrival is viewed as a marquee coup for the WSL side.

Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated since she appeared to be fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s fans after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its leading strikers. According to multiple sources, the formalities for the transfer are now finalised.

Reliable Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Attack

The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a major boost to United’s forward line. Schüller has been highly reliable in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Steam at Old Trafford

Securing the German international comes at a time when the club seem to be gathering positive momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has brought additional activity:

  1. The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.

On the midfielder's extension, a club official commented: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the American league, added: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
