Followers Call for Detainment of Individual Who Grabbed Ariana Grande
Passionate followers of the pop star are urging that a individual who jumped a barrier and grabbed the actress during Thursday's Wicked: For Good debut be taken into custody or deported from Singapore.
A circulating clip depicts the person identified as Johnson Wen bypassing media personnel and rushing toward Grande while the actors proceeded down a yellow carpet flanked by fans.
Fellow actress Cynthia Erivo promptly wrested the stunned actress away from Mr Wen, who was seen being escorted out of the gathering by event staff.
Mr Wen stated on Instagram recently that he was "released after being detained", though official papers showed that he was set to appear on the following morning. It is unknown if he was faced legal action.
Pattern of Disruptions
This is not the first time for Mr Wen, who labels himself a "Troll Most Hated", has disrupted a concert or event. His Instagram profile contains recordings of him disrupting other celebrity events, including breaching the performance area at the artist's Sydney show in earlier this year and in a comparable manner during The Chainsmokers performance in the same location last December.
"There needs to be action applied against him as this is clearly a legal violation," stated an Instagram user, in a message to a video Mr Wen posted of his behavior.
"You've done this repeatedly... how are you not behind bars?" a different Instagram user remarked.
Fans Express Concern Over Ariana's Well-being
Many fans blamed Mr Wen for "re-traumatising" Grande, who had spoken of dealing with trauma-related anxiety after a terrorist explosion at the conclusion of her May 2017 performance in Manchester, claiming the lives of 22 people and injuring many.
"Ariana has been through so many scary things... and at her Manchester concert and you thought it would be fun to jump the barricade?" commented one more message on Instagram.
A number of attendees also questioned security officers at the premiere for not being sufficiently alert; while some requested digital services to remove Mr Wen's videos.
Reaction and Premiere Information
In videos shared widely, Grande appeared startled when she was touched by the individual. Her fellow actors Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be seen comforting her while Mr Wen was removed by staff.
Grande has remained silent on the event, and the rest of the event continued without further issues.
Hundreds of attendees had congregated in a sea of green and pink at the Wicked: For Good international launch in a Singapore mall, including a number who had stood in line for as long as a significant duration before it began.
The movie, to be released on the 21st of November, is the second of a two-part adaptation of the well-known stage musical Wicked, which revolves around the unlikely relationship between two very different sorceresses.
The show itself is a adaptation of the classic children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who plays the character Glinda Glinda, was decked out in a rosé sequin dress at the event while Erivo, who plays the villainous character, wore a sleek black dress featuring roses.
They were joined by fellow actor Jeff Goldblum.
The initial film, Wicked, was the top-earning motion picture of the previous year in the UK, and received a dozen Academy Award nods, earning several for outstanding attire and set decoration.
