Fast bowler Gus Atkinson Compounds England's Fitness Problems.
'Serious blow' for the English camp after Atkinson is forced off suffering a hamstring problem.
Gus Atkinson added to the fitness woes of the England squad after leaving the ground early on day two of the Boxing Day Test in the Ashes series.
The pace bowler experienced discomfort in his left hamstring immediately following a delivery that he bowled during the morning session.
Team management reported the 27-year-old felt some "soreness" and would spend time off the field in order to be assessed "in the coming hours".
The final Test of the series in Sydney begins on Sunday, 4 January.
The English side has already lost strike bowlers Mark Wood to a knee injury and another paceman with an abdominal strain on this Ashes tour.
Matthew Fisher was added to the party as cover for Wood.
His form was underwhelming in the opening two Tests, managing only a handful of scalps.
He was dropped of the third Test, before being recalled for the Boxing Day match in the playing XI.
The county bowler showed better form in Melbourne, claiming a couple of wickets with the ball, and scoring 28 runs while batting among just a trio of England players who passed ten runs.
After bowling one over late on the first day, he came back the next day and had nightwatchman taken by the wicketkeeper.
Yet, at the end of the fifth over, he delivered a slower ball to Travis Head and promptly felt at his leg.
The English bowler was brought back for the fourth Ashes Test having missed the Adelaide game.
